MADRID, May 24 (Reuters) - The leader of Spain's largest workers union, Comisiones Obreras (CCOO), said he would prefer not to call a general strike because of the potential negative impact it could have on the country.
'A general strike would be the worst thing to happen to Spain,' Ignacio Fernandez Toxo told national television channel TVE on Monday.
Nevertheless, Toxo said earlier that the country was moving closer to a general strike.
The unions have already called a one-day public workers' strike against paycuts for June 8.
