WASHINGTON, May 24 (Reuters) - The U.S. International Trade Commission delayed until Wednesday a decision on a patent complaint brought by chip designer Rambus against graphic chip maker Nvidia and other companies, which had been due on Monday.
The battle is a key one for graphics chip maker Nvidia , whose core business relies upon the sale of specialized graphics cards.
An ITC judge had ruled in January that Nvidia and others violated three Rambus patents, and the entire commission was to issue its decision on whether to uphold that ruling on Monday. The ITC said the entire commission would now rule on whether that decision was correct on Wednesday.
The case focuses on three patents issued to Rambus engineer Richard Barth for technology that controls and manages the flow of computer data to and from a chip's memory.
Rambus licenses those and other patents for use in other company's products, such as Sony Corp's Playstation 3.
In addition to Nvidia, Rambus, which filed the lawsuit in 2008, also named as respondents Hewlett-Packard Co, ASUSTek Computer, Micro-star International and Pine Technology Holdings.
