ROME, May 25 (Reuters) - A 24-billion-euro package of deficit cuts approved by Italy's cabinet on Tuesday includes a three-year freeze on state wages and a pay cut for top public sector workers, a statement from the prime minister's office said.
'The budget cuts are centred on a reduction in state spending, a reduction in the cost of politics and public administration. With regard to revenues, the measures focus on tax evasion,' the statement said.
The emergency decree also crack downs on welfare fraud by disability claimants and delays retirement for Italians due to take their pensions next year, but does not include any tax increases, the statement said.
