HOUSTON, July 19 (Reuters) - Electricity prices for
delivery on Tuesday in the eastern United States dropped as
grid operators trimmed demand projections.
PJM pared peak-hour electric demand for Tuesday by more than 5,000 megawatts, or nearly 4 percent, from last week's forecast, as did the Midwest ISO, according to the grid agencies.
Nuclear outages eased from Friday and nuclear supply is poised to rise this week as two reactors begin to restart. One reactor shut over the weekend.
* All three units at TVA's Browns Ferry 3,274-megawatt nuclear power station in Alabama returned to full output over the weekend, up from half-power late last week.
* Two reactors began to exit outages: Dominion's 903-MW North Anna 1 reactor in Virginia and Progress Energy's 710-MW Robinson 2 reactor in South Carolina.
* PPL's 1,149-MW Susquehanna 1 reactor in Pennsylvania was manually shut Friday afternoon after 1 million gallons of river water leaked into the main condenser system.
* Dominion Resources' 799-MW Surry 2 reactor returned to full output over the weekend after an unplanned week-long outage.
* In Texas, Luminant's 575-MW Big Brown 2 coal unit returned to service over the weekend.

The average heat rate for gas plants in the United States is about 8,600 Btu/kilowatt-hour while the most efficient, least expensive to operate combined-cycle units have heat rates below 7,000.
Natural gas is the primary fuel for more than 40 percent of the power plants in New York, about 40 percent of the units in New England, 20 percent of the units in the Midwest ISO and less than 15 percent in PJM.
Gas is the primary fuel for more than 70 percent of the generation in Texas, 70 percent of the capacity in Entergy, 49 percent in Florida and just 28 percent in the rest of the Southeast.
