WASHINGTON, Aug 19 (Reuters) - ITT Corp has won a contract valued at up to $455 million to produce up to 5,000 electronic jammers to prevent roadside bombs targeted against U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Defense Department said on Thursday.
* Work on the jamming systems, known as Joint Counter Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device Electronic Warfare (JCREW), would be completed by September 2014, the Pentagon said in its daily digest of major contracts.
* The JCREW systems are designed to prevent the initiation of radio-controlled roadside bombs, a critical part of the Pentagon's effort to protect U.S. personnel from the threat posed by improvised explosive devices.
