LONDON, Aug 5 (Reuters) - Santander could hire up to 6,000 new staff over the next year or two as part its expansion in Britain, the Financial Times said on its website on Sunday.
Santander, the euro zone's biggest lender, said last month it plans to create 600 new jobs within the next twelve months.
Citing people familiar with the recruitment plans, however, the newspaper said Santander is in the market for up to 6,000 jobs.
This is in addition to the 5,000 employees it has inherited from Royal Bank of Scotland after its acquisition last month of of 318 UK branches, the FT said.
Santander was not immediately reachable for comment.
