TAIPEI, Sept 30 (Reuters) - The Taiwan dollar rose to a
two-year closing high on Thursday and ended the third quarter
with a 2.9 percent gain, ahead of the central bank's
policy-setting board meeting later in the day.
The U.S. dollar weakened against most major Asian currencies in July-September, and recent poor U.S. economic data reinforced expectations the U.S. Federal Reserve will take more action to help the struggling economy.
The Taiwan dollar closed at T$31.330, up from Wednesday's close of T$31.380.
Taiwan's central bank is widely expected to raise its policy interest rate again as the island's economic growth continues and inflation remains subdued.
