Nov 10 (Reuters) - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd is considering partnering with the Tata Motors group on an Indian smart-city pilot project it is participating in, the Nikkei business daily reported.
Mitsubishi Heavy is already in a consortium with Mitsubishi Corp and Mitsubishi Electric Corp to develop smart communities in two areas of the Indian state of Gujarat.
The Mitsubishi consortium plans to prepare infrastructure including electric power, drinking water and sewer, and transportation systems, which is estimated to cost as much as 100 billion yen ($1.23 billion), the paper said.
The Mitsubishi team is seeking to partner with Tata Motors and other local companies to jointly establish a special purpose entity designed to facilitate the construction of this infrastructure.
The Mitsubishi consortium has begun conducting a project survey, the paper added.
