MELBOURNE, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Australian stocks are set to
open lower on Monday after copper hit a one-week low on continued
jitters about talk of China possibly raising interest rates to
curb inflation, and of Ireland perhaps needing a bailout.
* Stock index futures fell 0.4 percent to 4,689.0, a 3.7 point discount to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index. The benchmark fell 0.8 percent on Friday, closing the week down
2.3 percent in its biggest weekly drop since mid
August.
* New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index slipped 5.4 points to 3,305.2 in early trade.
* Wall Street fell on Friday, ending a five-week winning streak, as investors took profits on worries about debt problems in Ireland and tighter credit in China.
* Gold suffered its biggest fall in four months on Friday, tumbling 3 percent, as investors unwound risk in commodities. Copper prices fell, too, with benchmark copper on the London Metal Exchange closing at $8,615 a tonne.
* BHP Billiton killed its $39 billion bid for top global fertiliser maker Potash Corp and bowed to shareholders' calls for it to resume a $4.2 billion share buyback that was put on hold three years ago.
* Top global pallet supplier Brambles made a 923 million euros ($1.26 billion) offer for rival IFCO.
* OneSteel agreed to buy Scaw Metals assets from Anglo American for $932 million.
* Building materials group James Hardie reported a steep fall in its second-quarter loss.
