WELLINGTON, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Asian stocks are set for an
uncertain start on Monday, as markets digest the news of an 85
billion euro rescue package for Ireland.
The 16-nation European Union approved the package, which included an immediate 10 billion euro recapitalisation for Ireland's debt-stricken banks, fearing contagion would strike fellow strugglers Spain and Portugal.
Asian markets will see little in the way of a lead from the United States, with the main indexes down as much as 0.85 percent in a holiday-thinned session, with commodity-sensitive stocks bearing the brunt.
Asian stocks listed on Wall Street fell 1.65 percent.
Tensions on the Korean peninsula will continue to keep markets on edge, with China calling for emergency talks to resolve the crisis.
The euro gained in the wake of the rescue package, while the yen weakening slightly.
Japanese markets are seen making a weaker start, with Nikkei futures traded in Chicago 40 points below the last closing level in Osaka.
Australian stocks are also opened facing a lower open, with share price index futures falling 21 points to 4,576, a 22.3 points discount to the close of the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index.
