MELBOURNE, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Australian stocks are set to
open slightly higher, led by the miners as metal prices jumped
on encouraging U.S. consumer sentiment and manufacturing data,
but worries about the euro zone debt crisis could dampen gains.
* Stock index futures were flat at 4,591.0, ending 6.6 points above the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index. The benchmark fell 0.7 percent on Tuesday, logging a 1.7 percent decline for November.
* New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index slipped 0.2 percent to 3,258.0 in early trade.
* U.S. stocks fell but showed resilience in the face of Europe's debt crisis, recovering some of their losses on more encouraging signs from the U.S. economy.
* Copper closed more than 1 percent higher, posting its fifth straight monthly gain, after a double dose of positive economic data in the United States. Gold also rose more than 1 percent as a sharp decline of the euro and signs of a deepening euro zone debt crisis fed safe-haven buying.
* Australia Q3 GDP is due at 0030 GMT. Forecasts have been revised down steadily on soft readings for construction, equipment investment and inventories. The report should only add to market expectations of steady interest rates for some months to come.
