MELBOURNE - Australian stocks are set to make a firmer start on Tuesday,
with global markets nudging higher in the countdown to the holiday season,
helped by support from firm metals prices and higher financial stocks on Wall
Street.
* Share price index futures rose 24 points to 4,753 a 16.4 point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index . The index had risen 0.6 percent on Monday.
* New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index added 0.3 percent to 3,308.4 in early trade.
* Property developer Lend Lease will be in focus after the firm said it has agreed to buy the local unit of German construction firm Bilfinger Berger for A$960 million ($954 million).
* Incitec Pivot will be closely watched for any comment on the outlook as it holds its annual shareholders meeting at 2pm.
* Investors will also cast an eye over the minutes from the central bank's December policy meeting, due for release at 0030 GMT.
* Wall Street pushed up to a two-yeear high on Monday, continuing its sharp December rally as financials, energy and materials stocks led the way.
* Copper rose towards record highs again on Monday as inflation expectations, robust Chinese demand and supply kinks ahead attracted fund inflows.
