Wall Street ends losing streak, pulled up by energy shares
Energy shares helped the Dow and S&P 500 end a three-day losing streak on Tuesday, even as investors worried rising fuel costs will undercut economic growth.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 34.43 points, or 0.30 percent, to 11,671.88. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index gained 4.73 points, or 0.37 percent, to 1,274.48, and the Nasdaq Composite Index added 9.03 points, or 0.33 percent, to 2,716.83.

Telecoms slump for fourth session; AT&T, Verizon pressure
Telecommunications shares tumbled on Tuesday as the S&P telecom services sector index slumped for the fourth consecutive day of trading, edging down 1.7 percent. The sector index shed more than 6 percent since it touched a more than two-year high on January 5.
Weighing on the sector, Verizon Communications Inc fell 1.8 percent to $35.29 after Verizon Wireless, its venture with Vodafone Group Plc, announced it will begin selling a version of Apple Inc's iPhone. For details, see
Shares of AT&T, previously an exclusive U.S. provider for the iPhone for three years, fell 1.7 percent to $27.86.

MBIA shares soar after crucial legal victory
Shares of MBIA Inc shot up 10.8 percent to $13.61 after the bond issuer won a crucial victory in the legal battle over its restructuring on Tuesday. Earlier, MBIA shares touched their highest level in more than two years as a New York appeals court dismissed a 2009 challenge to the restructuring plan by a group of banks.

Nasdaq and all its exchanges will stay open on Wednesday as New York braces for another severe snow storm, predicted to hit the city later on Tuesday.
The exchange is expected to open and close at normal times, prepared to carry on a standard trading day, according to the Nasdaq operations update.
