Options traders bullish on JP Morgan
Options traders were bullish on JP Morgan in the last trading session ahead of the company's earnings report before the bell on Friday.
Investors are buying call spreads as well as ratio call spreads in anticipation of a rally in shares, said Caitlin Duffy, an analyst at Interactive Brokers Group. She said one trader bought 4,800 February calls at strike price of $45 for a premium of $1.45 each, and sold 9,600 calls at the February $48 strike at a premium of $0.42. The net premium for the spread is 61 cents per contract.
'The investor responsible for the transaction is therefore poised to profit should shares in JPMorgan rally 1.7 percent to trade above the effective break-even price of $45.61 ahead of expiration day in February,' said Duffy.
'Maximum potential profits of $2.39 per contract pad the investor's wallet in the event that the stock gains 7 percent to settle at $48.00 at expiration,' she said. Options traders have traded over 3 times the average daily volume.
The shares closed down 0.6 percent at $44.45.
