Feb 11 (Reuters) - Natural gas and electric utility UGI Utilities Inc, a unit of UGI Corp, said an explosion on Wednesday night at one of its gas pipelines in Allentown, Pennsylvania, killed five people.
'Two homes were completely destroyed in a blast and numerous others damaged by the explosion, the resulting fire or water,' UGI Utilities Chief Executive John Walsh said in a statement.
The Reading, Pennsylvania-based company has surveyed the pipeline and will be testing the soil around it for clues to the cause of the accident.
UGI Utilities' gas utility segment serves about 568,000 customers in eastern and central Pennsylvania.
