MADRID, May 22 (Reuters) - Spain's centre-right Popular Party took a 6 percentage point lead over the Socialists in municipal elections on Sunday, based on 29 percent of votes tallied, the Interior Ministry's website showed.
The tally showed the PP with 34.93 percent of votes, the Socialists wth 28.22 percent, and the rest going to other parties in more than 8,000 elections for city mayors and councils.
The Socialists were expected to suffer heavy losses in the voting due to anger over high unemployment and a stagnant economy
