MADRID, May 22 (Reuters) - Spain's leading opposition party, the centre-right Popular Party, took a strong lead in regional elections in Castilla-La Mancha winning 48 percent of the votes, based on a tally of 23 percent of votes cast, the Interior Ministry reported on its website on Sunday.
The Socialists were trailing with 42 percent of the vote.
The Socialists have controlled the legislature in Castilla-La Mancha for 28 years and it was considered a key battleground in Sunday's local and regional election.
