FORT WORTH (dpa-AFX) - American Airlines, a unit of AMR Corp. (AAMRQ.PK), reported that its traffic in January 2012 increased 1.4% from January 2011, on a capacity decrease of 2.1%. The airline said its January 2012 traffic rose 1.4% to 10.00 billion revenue passenger miles or RPMs from 9.87 billion RPMs in the same period last year. The airline's January available seat miles or capacity was 12.74 billion, down 2.1% from 13.02 billion in the prior year period. Load factor for January 2012 was 78.5%, up 2.7 points from 75.8% reported in January 2011. In separate press release, American Eagle, a unit of AMR Corp., reported a January traffic increase of 10.3 percent year-over-year as capacity increased 5.6 percent. Traffic for January 2012 increased 10.3% to 751.94 million revenue passenger miles or RPMs from 682.03 million RPMs in the prior year month. Capacity grew 5.6% to 1.12 billion available seat miles or ASMs from 1.06 billion ASMs in the year-ago month. Load factor improved 2.8 points to 67.2% from 64.4% in January 2011.
