WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Crown Holdings Inc. (CCK) reported first-quarter net income attributable to the company of $69 million or $0.46 per share, compared to $16 million or $0.10 per share in the prior year period.
Excluding certain items, net income dropped to $69 million or $0.46 per share from $76 million or $0.48 per share in the comparable quarter last year. On average, twelve analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of $0.45 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Net sales for the quarter grew to $1.95 billion from $1.88 billion last year, primarily driven by increased global beverage can sales unit volumes offset by $36 million from foreign currency translation.
Ten analysts expected revenues of $1.92 billion for the quarter.
