NEW YORK CITY (dpa-AFX) - Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) CEO Lowell McAdam, Thursday made it clear that the company is not interested in buying satellite-TV operator Dish Network Corp. (DISH). McAdam also disclosed a strong postpaid subscriber growth results for the second quarter.
McAdam, in an interview with CNBC, indicated that Verizon is interested in Dish Network's spectrum, however he refuted reports that the company is interested in buying Dish Network to improve its wireless internet speeds after rival AT&T's bid for satellite operator DirecTV.
'Dish has got some great spectrum. Spectrum is the life and blood of the mobile industry.' McAdam said. 'Anything around spectrum is always of interest to us.'
However, he highlighted that Verizon is not interested in a large acquisition after its $130 billion acquisition of Vodafone Group Plc's (VOD, VOD.L) 45 percent stake in Verizon Wireless.
'I haven't seen a scenario yet that owning a satellite company makes sense to us, not being critical of any other deal out there,' he added.
McAdam also added that the company has added over 1.4 million net postpaid wireless customers in the second quarter, driven by a strong growth in its tablet and smartphone business.
'The second quarter is very strong for us, and I think it is an indication that the industry is very strong,' said McAdam.
VZ closed Thursday's trading at $49.64, up $0.74 or 1.51%, on the NYSE. The stock, however, dropped $0.04 or 0.08% in after-hours trade.
