OTTAWA (dpa-AFX) - Automaker FCA US LLC, owned by Italy-based Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (FCAU), said it is voluntarily recalling all the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT coupes and Dodge Charger SRT sedans equipped with 6.2 liter V-8 engines, known as the Hellcats, citing possible fire risks due to leakage from hose seals.
The total number of vehicles being recalled by the company is an estimated 2,211 cars, of which 2,012 vehicles are located in the U.S. Another 148 vehicles are located in Canada, while 30 units are in Mexico and the remaining 21 units are in other countries.
FCA US, which changed its name from Chrysler Group LLC in mid-December, said that one of its dealers alerted the company about a possible fuel leak after a pre-delivery inspection of one of the vehicles.
According to FCA US, the fuel delivery components had passed the leak test of the supplier. However, an investigation by the company's engineers showed that certain hose seals may have not been properly installed, raising the potential for fuel leaks that could result in fire.
The 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat has a starting price of $63,995, while the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has a starting price of $59,995.
FCA US said it is unaware of any reports of accidents, injuries or customer complaints regarding the issue.
