BRUSSELS (dpa-AFX) - The European Union on Wednesday condemned the assassination attempt on Libyan prime minister yesterday.
'The EU calls upon all parties in Libya to unite in confronting attempts that undermine Libyan efforts to find a political agreement,' the Union said in a statement.
'Yesterday's terrorist attack on Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thinni is an outrageous assault to further destabilize Libya. Thankfully the Prime Minister survived the attack unharmed,' the EU statement said.
Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thinni, Libya's internationally recognized leader, escaped an assassination attempt by unknown gunmen while he was leaving the parliament in Tobruk. The prime minister and his entourage came under heavy fire by gunmen in several cars following the official convoy.
Al-Thinni survived the attempt but at least one bodyguard is reportedly being treated for unspecified injuries.
