BRUSSELS (dpa-AFX) - Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos on Friday signed a decree dissolving the country's parliament and setting snap elections on September 20.
This would be the debt-ridden country's fifth election in six years.
Pavlopoulos has appointed a caretaker government with Greece's top judge Vassiliki Thanou as prime minister to organize the election.
The moves followed the abrupt resignation of former prime minister Alexis Tsipras of radical-left Syriza party last week.
Tsipras, who was elected only in January on pledge to renegotiate austerity meaasues that accompanied Greece's first two bailouts, struck the deal last month for a new €86 billion international bailout package that calls for more reforms.
