CLICHY (dpa-AFX) - India's advertising watchdog, Advertising Standard Council of India or ASCI, has pulled up French cosmetic giant L'Oreal Co. (LRLCY.PK) for its New Garnier Action Facewash and Garnier Pure Active Neem+ Tulsi High Foaming Facewash, stating that its claims were found 'ambiguous and unsubstantiated'.
The company had promoted Garnier Pure Active Neem+ Tulsi High Foaming Facewash with promises of 'removal of 99.9 % pimple causing germs'. New Garnier Action Facewash claimed '1 tone fairer skin.' The Customer Complaints Council or CCC of the ASCI upheld the complaints it had received.
Further, the watchdog also found an advertisement by drinks giant Pernod Ricard as directly promoting a brand Seagram, which is linked to alcohol business.
Additionally, the agency noted that the advertisement by taxi network Uber states, 'You drink, we drive'. 'When read in conjunction with the depiction of logos of bars such as Zara etc as UBERAPPROVED PARTNERS, was seen to promote alcohol drinking,' CCC said.
