WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Ahead of the third and final presidential debate in Las Vegas, the results of a Monmouth University poll show Hillary Clinton has jumped ahead of Donald Trump among likely Nevada voters.
Forty-seven percent of likely Nevada voters said they support Clinton, while 40 percent back Trump. Another 7 percent intend to vote for Libertarian Gary Johnson and 2 percent said they will choose Nevada's unique 'none of these candidates' option.
The seven-point lead for Clinton in the latest poll compares to a survey conducted last month showing Trump with a 44 percent to 42 percent advantage in Nevada.
Monmouth said Clinton's resurgence is due mainly to younger, non-white voters moving into her column over the past month.
'We saw this same trend in the national poll Monmouth,' said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute. 'Historically Democratic groups appear to be coming home to Clinton, especially among male voters in these key voting blocs.'
The release of the poll results comes ahead of the final face-to-face matchup between Clinton and Trump at the University of Nevada on Wednesday.
Political pundits have described the debate as Trump's final opportunity to alter the momentum of the race following the real estate tycoon's slump in the polls amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
Despite the shift at the top of the ticket, Monmouth noted that the Nevada Senate race has barely budged since the summer.
The poll showed Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., with a 45 percent to 42 percent lead over Democratic former state Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto.
Heck led by a similar 46 percent to 43 percent in September and by 42 percent to 40 percent in July in the race to replace Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
The Monmouth survey of 413 Nevada voters was conducted October 14th through 17th and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percentage points.
