WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - House Republicans are planning to vote on a multi-billion dollar, short-term funding bill to support the response to Hurricane Harvey as soon as next week, according to media reports.
A report from Politico said GOP leaders and the White House are considering a package that includes nearly $6 billion to fund the Federal Emergency Management Agency through the end of the month.
The package would include $5.5 billion in disaster relief funds as well as $450 million in small business loans, sources familiar with the matter told Politico.
Some lawmakers have been hoping to tie emergency Harvey funding to a bill raising the debt ceiling before the end of September.
However, Politico said FEMA could run out of money before the end of the month and noted any funding that advances next week would be merely a down payment.
A much larger infusion of money is expected to be tied to a debt and spending package due at the end of the month, Politico said.
