WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with senior Republican lawmakers on Tuesday as he continues his push for tax reform.
Trump is due to meet with members of Congress and administration officials on tax reform in the Roosevelt Room at 4 pm ET.
A report from Politico said House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ken., House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Tex., and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, will attend the meeting.
The meeting will also reportedly be attended by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed the meeting during a press briefing last Friday but indicated it does not mean a package on tax reform is almost finished.
'That means that we're pushing forward,' Sanders said. 'We're going to continue ... and sit down with a lot of members of Congress to make sure we get this deal done.'
Trump will follow the meeting with a trip to North Dakota on Wednesday as he continues his stepped up push for tax reform that began with a speech in Missouri last week.
In an interview with the Financial Times last month, Cohn said Ryan, McConnell, Brady and Hatch have agreed on a framework that will serve as the basis for a bill.
Cohn said he hoped the Ways and Means Committee would draft a bill over the next three to four weeks and that he believed Congress would pass tax reform legislation this year.
