WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - A bill providing hurricane relief, raising the debt ceiling and funding the government is headed to President Donald Trump's desk after the House easily passed the legislation on Friday.
The House voted 316 to 90 in favor of the massive fiscal package, with all of the votes against the bill coming from the Republican side of the aisle.
In addition to providing more than $15 billion in emergency aid for victims of Hurricane Harvey, the bill raises the debt ceiling and funds the government for three months.
The vote in the House came after the Senate voted 80 to 17 in favor of the bill on Thursday. All of the votes against the legislation came from Republican senators.
Trump is expected to quickly sign the bill after reaching an agreement with Democratic leaders on the legislation earlier this week.
The agreement between Trump and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., surprised GOP leaders, who had been looking for a longer-term debt ceiling increase.
The combined legislation clears the decks for lawmakers to address issues such as tax reform but sets up a potentially dangerous fiscal cliff near the end of the year.
