WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Senator Ted Cruz, R-Tex., has denied responsibility for 'liking' a pornographic video from his Twitter account, blaming an unnamed staffer for the mishap.
'It was not me,' Cruz said in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash broadcast Wednesday. 'And it's not gonna happen again.'
Cruz noted that Twitter went crazy after his @tedcruz account 'liked' a post from @SexuallPosts that had a porn video attached.
'We had a staffer who accidentally hit the wrong button, and it was a screw-up,' Cruz said. 'As soon as we found out about it, we pulled it down.'
The Texas senator said he would not identify the staffer responsible, calling it an 'honest mistake' that has been dealt with internally.
Cruz also pushed back against claims that he supports a law restricting the sale of sex toys even though he argued in favor of such a law while Texas solicitor general.
'I spent five and a half years as the solicitor general in Texas, I worked for the attorney general,' Cruz said. 'The attorney general's job is to defend the laws passed by the Texas legislature.'
'One of those laws was a law restricting the sale of sex toys, which is a stupid law,' he added. 'Consenting adults should be able to do whatever they want in their bedrooms.'
