WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - With Republicans engaged in a last-ditch effort to repeal and replace Obamacare, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ken., intends to bring a healthcare bill drafted by Senators Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Bill Cassidy, R-La., to the floor next week.
The Graham-Cassidy bill would repeal the structure and architecture of Obamacare and replace it with block grants to states to help individuals pay for healthcare.
'It is the leader's intention to consider Graham-Cassidy on the floor next week,' a McConnell spokeswoman said.
The potential move comes as Republicans only have until the end of the month to repeal and replace Obamacare with a simple majority.
However, it is currently unclear if the Graham-Cassidy bill will have the 50 votes needed to pass with a tiebreaker by Vice President Mike Pence.
Senate Rand Paul, R-Ken., has expressed opposition to the legislation, and Republicans subsequently cannot afford to lose more than one more vote.
Senators Susan Collins, R-Maine, John McCain, R-Ariz., and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, who voted against the GOP's last attempt to repeal Obamacare, are undecided on the Graham-Cassidy bill.
President Donald Trump urged Senate Republicans to support the Graham-Cassidy bill in a post on Twitter on Wednesday.
