PYONGYANG (dpa-AFX) - A Quinnipiac University national poll released Thursday suggests voters are losing hope for a peaceful resolution to the dispute with North Korea.
Fifty percent of voters think the U.S. will be able to resolve the situation with North Korea diplomatically, down from 64 percent last month.
The poll also found that the percentage of voters who think the U.S. will need to use military force to resolve the situation has climbed to 35 percent from 26 percent.
The survey was conducted amid an escalating war of words between the U.S. and North Korea, with President Donald Trump threatening to 'totally destroy' the communist country.
Voters said 67 percent to 28 percent that Trump's threat in a speech to the UN General Assembly was not in the best interest of the U.S.
The poll also found that voters say 56 percent to 41 percent they do not have confidence in Trump to handle the situation with North Korea.
Fifty-two percent of voters also said it is more important to avoid war with North Korea, while 43 percent said it is more important to take away the country's nuclear weapons.
The Quinnipiac survey of 1,412 voters was conducted September 21st through 26th and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
