WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - A voluntary recall has been issued for about 40,000 pounds of ground turkey after metal shavings were discovered in the product.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, the recall is for ground turkey produced by Prestage Foods, Inc. Metal shavings were found in a package on September 27.
The recall products were sold at Publix, Aldi and Weis Markets supermarkets.
The recall of 38,475 pounds of ground turkey includes 1.3 pound packages labeled 'Publix ground turkey breast with natural flavorings,' 1.2 pound packages labeled 'Fit & Active Fresh Ground Turkey with natural flavorings' and 1 pound packages labeled 'Weis Markets Fresh Ground Turkey Breast.'
The products were distributed to retail centers in Florida, Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
