WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Food-waste technology company Winnow has raised $7.4 million in funding that the firm intends to use to expand the rollout of its food waste reducing monitor for chefs.
The funding round was co-led by Circularity Capital and existing backers Mustard Seed and D-Ax. It follows a $3.3 million Series A round in January 2016.
The company's Winnow Waste Monitor allows kitchen staff to log what food is thrown away. That data is then analyzed by Winnow's algorithm and help to curb food waste.
Winnow claims to have large companies like IKEA, Compass Group, and AccorHotels as its customers. The company says that its clients are saving 4,300 tons of food waste annually through the use of the Winnow system.
