WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Cigna Corp. (CI) revealed a profit for its third quarter that advanced from last year.
The company's earnings came in at $772 million, or $3.14 per share. This compares with $560 million, or $2.21 per share, in last year's third quarter.
Excluding items, Cigna Corp. reported adjusted earnings of $945 million or $3.84 per share for the period.
Analysts had expected the company to earn $3.44 per share, according to figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
The company's revenue for the quarter rose 10.4% to $11.45 billion from $10.37 billion last year.
