WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - The COVID-19 pandemic has so far infected over 6 million people in the United States and has taken lives of more than 183 thousand people.
According to data from Johns Hopkins University, at least 6,020,186 coronavirus cases and 183,355 deaths have been recorded in the United States.
The pandemic has now killed at least 847,847 people worldwide with more than 25.33 million people been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Coronavirus cases are increasing across more than half of the states in the country, especially in the Midwestern states, including Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and the Dakotas. However, the outbreak has slowed down in the previous hotspots like Arizona, Florida, California and Texas.
Meanwhile, Twitter, on Sunday, removed a tweet shared by President Donald Trump that contained false information about coronavirus statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The original tweet, posted by a user with the handle @littlemel, has been replaced by standard language stating, 'This Tweet is no longer available because it violated the Twitter Rules. Learn more.'
Last week, the Democratic governors in the country have opposed to the change in the COVID-19 testing guidance. The have asked their states will not implement a controversial change the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) introduced in its guidance on testing COVID-suspected patients.
As per CDC's new guidelines, those who do not show symptoms of the disease 'do not necessarily need a test'.
Health experts and scientists have expressed concern over the White House order to stop recommending diagnostic tests for asymptomatic people exposed to coronavirus patients.
