WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - CDC has reported an extensively drug-resistant multi-state salmonella outbreak linked to moringa powder capsules.
Seven people from seven states have fallen sick with the same strain of Salmonella. Three people have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported.
A CDC investigation has found that this is an extensively drug-resistant strain of Salmonella. CDC said that if antibiotics are needed, infections with this strain may not be treatable with commonly recommended antibiotics and may require a different antibiotic choice.
CDC said that this is a different outbreak from the Salmonella outbreak linked to supplements containing moringa leaf powder that was updated in January.
It advised those who have affected Rosabella brand moringa powder capsules in their home to throw them out or return them to where they were purchased.
Consumers have been warned not eat affected Rosabella brand moringa powder capsules. 'Wash items and surfaces that may have touched the capsules using hot soapy water or a dishwasher,' CDC said.
