WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - The Hershey Company announced plans to revert to its classic milk and dark chocolate recipes across all Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Hershey-branded products by 2027.
This decision comes after some backlash regarding the use of chocolate compound coatings in various spinoff products.
This shift follows public criticism from Brad Reese, the grandson of H. B. Reese, who claimed the company has strayed from the original recipe crafted in 1928. He pointed out that many seasonal and specialty items didn't taste like the good old milk chocolate anymore.
Kirk Tanner mentioned that they'll start transitioning specific products like mini-Reese's cups, shaped candies, and the Reese's Fast Break bar back to authentic milk chocolate as soon as next year.
Hershey clarified that this reformulation only affects less than three percent of Reese's products, while the classic Reese's Peanut Butter Cups have stayed true to their original recipe. Plus, the company aims to eliminate artificial colors from its lineup by the end of next year.
