In the first quarter of 2025, the energy commodities trader and convenience store network Virši (AS VIRŠI-A and its associated group companies) continued to show revenue growth, reaching turnover of EUR 89.9 million - an increase of 5.7% compared to the first three months of the previous year.
Turnover from the convenience store segment grew by 10.2%, or EUR 1.1 million during the respective period. Meanwhile, turnover in the fuel segment increased by 3.5% y-o-y, or EUR 2.4 million, reaching EUR 69.9 million.
The period was marked by several important events for Virši:
- In January 2025, the Company, together with its partners, commenced the construction of a biomethane plant in Naukšeni, Valmiera municipality. This project marks a significant step in the development of Latvia's energy sector, promoting the production of sustainable and environmentally friendly energy. A long-term loan was granted for the implementation of the project by the European Energy Efficiency Fund.
- Virši published its 2024 Sustainability Report. Despite the lack of full clarity around sustainability reporting standards in the European Union, the Company continues its commitment to sustainable solutions, guided by its core values - care for the environment, people, and governance. In 2024, a double materiality assessment was carried out to identify strategically important topics, risks, and opportunities that shape long-term development direction and impact for Virši. The Company remains committed to investing in environmentally friendly solutions, employee professional growth, and responsible governance.
- At the beginning of the year, following the conclusion of the charity campaign jointly implemented by Virši and the SOS Children's Villages Association, a donation of EUR 17,713 was made to support the association's activities. The full amount was allocated to the implementation of the "When a Baby is Born" programme, which provides emotional and informational support to parents of newborns through PEP - early emotional support mothers.
"The construction of the biomethane plant is the next strategic step in Virši development - it allows us to further strengthen and diversify the Company's business model through sustainable energy production. At the same time, we continue to develop responsible business practices where environmental and human wellbeing, as well as transparency in governance, play a key role - as also demonstrated in the latest sustainability report," said Janis Viba, Chairman of the Management Board of Virši.
